“It’s the one thing you never say out loud,” she told me, her voice trailing off, “because that’s how people think, you know?
And then the other thing is, it’s not the right way to make a big deal about it.
You have to have it in a way that people understand.”
She added that she’d never wanted to be the “girl next door.”
In fact, she never has been, and never will be.
But after her husband’s comments, the family felt it necessary to publicly respond.
In an exclusive interview with EW, she talks about the experience of being the mother of an openly gay son, and how her son’s journey with her has changed her, and her relationship with her husband.

“I don’t think my husband was in a position to be that insensitive or judgmental,” she said.
“But he’s my son, so he’s a little bit of a stranger to my world, and he was very judgmental and he made some assumptions.
So I think that it’s just a lot of different emotions.
I know what my reaction was, and I know that I’m not the only one that was surprised.
“It was pretty intense.” “
The whole experience of me not knowing my son or being alone in a relationship with someone else and knowing that they had a really bad thing on their minds is pretty intense,” she continued.
“It was pretty intense.”
Teen Mom, where Jenelle Evans and Mackenzie Davis were both cast, was the first TV series to premiere with a lesbian couple.
“My husband and I are the same age and have the same career and are both in our early twenties, and we are very happy with our lives, so there was never a need to put him in a role where he would be expected to have that judgmental attitude towards his son,” she explained.
“So that was just not something we felt like that we needed to put in our show.”
But her son, Jordan, is still struggling to reconcile his father’s comments and his parents’ reactions to him being openly gay.
“We don’t know what that’s going to be like for my son and how it will impact him, but at the same time, we’re really proud of him, so it’s good to have his perspective, because it was really a tough experience for him to go through,” she shared.
“And it’s a really good thing that we have a lot more open and accepting people in the world than there ever was before.”
